Placement!

I have been anxiously awaiting this moment since the day that I signed up for my trip, and today I finally found out where I am going to be volunteering in Ghana!

The place I will be working is called "Pro-Link." It is a development orientated, NGO (non-governmental organization) that works towards a lot of different things. For example, They have health education programs, teach about the risks of Malaria and HIV, teach how to maintain food security and even have computer classes! (though I am sure they will be significantly different than my idea of a computer lab) There will also be a chance to work with children, as people can bring them there while they take classes, as sort of a daycare spot.

I was warned by Natalie, my program director, that although the program has high aspirations, it is very unstructured and slow moving. As such, I need to be prepared for the fact that I might not see a huge amount of significant progress in my time there. Although ideally I would want that, to be able to see quick change, and the impact of me being there, I have to realize that it might not be so obvious.

While at first this seems almost discouraging, I think that it will be perfect for me at this point in my life. I am a HUGE type A person, always worried about time, and effectiveness, to the point where I obsess over it, or get anxiety if somebody is late to meet me somewhere. This is going to greatly challenge those issues that are so deeply ingrained in me, lets just hope I don't have a massive anxiety attack along the way! (I kid I kid)
